daydee

Even though it appears that this community hasn't been written in for awhile, I wanted to take the time to mention that daydee died in the early hours of August 31st, 2016 at the age of thirty-four years old.

She had cystic fibrosis and got a double-lung transplant on June 6th, 2012. Because of this, she spent four more years with friends and family that she would otherwise likely not have had. I became a friend of hers on Facebook after she had gotten her transplant, having several mutual friends in common, and always valued our conversations and interactions. However, in 2016 she went into chronic rejection. Although her initial intentions were to get healthy enough to list for re-transplant (and to get one if the call came), this sadly turned out not to be possible. However, she was able to keep her heart beating long enough to be able to donate her liver to a lucky recipient in Vancouver, B.C. and pay forward the gift of life that she herself had gotten in 2012 in the most literal, humbling, awe-inspiring way possible. As her husband said writing in her transplant group on Facebook, although she wanted to live, if her body could no longer sustain her, she would make it possible to donate what she could to others. She was able to donate her corneas to someone as well, giving them the gift of sight. (I too envy the person who is getting to see the world through her eyes!)

In the earlier days, she was active in the cystic fibrosis community cystic_fibrosis here on LiveJournal.

I will miss her very much.

murbot, sparklesglow

I just wanted to post here that Maria (LiveJournal accounts: murbot, sparklesglow) passed away on November 13th, 2015 at the age of 22.

She had cystic fibrosis and had gotten a double-lung transplant on July 28th, 2008. In the time period leading up to her death, she had been diagnosed with chronic rejection and was in the process of trying to list for another transplant. She was fairly active in the cystic fibrosis community on LiveJournal in the earlier days, and was featured in Ian Pettigrew's books Just Breathe and Salty Girls: The Women of Cystic Fibrosis. She died within hours of her cousin Cristy, who also had cystic fibrosis and had also recieved a double-lung transplant.

Although we didn't get a chance to get to know each other in this life, we had several mutual friends on Facebook and LiveJournal. Nonetheless, I am saddened by her loss as I have heard so many amazing, positive things about her from those that knew her well.

Rest in peace, Maria.

Megmucus passed away

Meggan Elizabeth Martin (megmucus on Livejournal) passed away on March 27th, 2013.

Meg was one of three girls featured in the documentary 65_Redroses, which starred Eva Markvoort, who passed away on March 28th, 2010 from Cystic Fibrosis. She was on the transplant list due to chronic rejection, and she never got another pair of lungs. Meg also had CF and she died from gastric complications while in hospital. She had surgery, developed an infection, and in her weakened state, she passed away at the age of 25.

Meg, her boyfriend, and Meg's son Aven.

RIP, Meg. You were an amazing person.

RIP, Lois.

Lois (lotus82) passed away today at the age of 28 from Cystic Fibrosis.

I hope Eva (65redroses) and Lois have found each other in heaven. I wouldn't be surprised if Eva was trying to get Lois to have super saturated red hair.

Their beauty and legacy will live on forever.

Love, love, love.

Rest In Peace

Base - look out from the balcony

(no subject)

The recent months have seen two LJ users lose their battles with Cystic Fibrosis.

65redroses

Her journal documents her journey with the illness, the documentary '65_RedRoses' that was made about her double lung transplant in 2007, and her life and her love. Her journal contains many links to articles that confirm her existence and her passing.

Eva Markvoort passed away on March 27th, 2010. She was 25.

aubrey_osiris

Also 25, she passed away on October 15th, 2010. Confirmed here by her twin sister (locked entry, but membership is open) and also in an external obituary here. Original founder of the cystic_fibrosis community.

I urge anyone who is reading this to consider becoming an organ donor.

We salute you, serviceman...

evil_dwagon was killed on the night of February 18th, 2009, while riding his motorcycle near the 29 Palms Marine Corps Base in California where he works. A drunk(unconfirmed) truck driver swerved in front of him and he struck the vehicle. The official news release is here.

The comments left there from his friends say more than I ever could. I'll always remember him as Ensign Reed, even though I don't actually know what his final rank was when he left his Navy commission. The stories he brought back from overseas about "some country in the Middle East without any vowels" were classic. He'll definitely be missed.

Daniel Sunday 7/31/74 - 1/26/09

Daniel Sunday (danxsunday) passed away on 1/26/09 after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer. Through his illness he never lost his sincere way with words or his sense of humor. He kept us laughing through the tears, right to the very end.

Rest in peace, Dan. You are greatly loved.

Brieanne Reichel (bwieannie

She will remain in the hearts of the Riverhead High School Class of 2005 forever. An 18-wheeler blew through a red light and T-boned her car. She had just gotten her permit and was practicing her driving.

Her livejournal was also recently made- she never had the chance to make her first post.
